Mary Fry: Helping The Community Embrace A Caring Climate
PCA National Advisory Board Member Mary Fry (@MaryFry10) is a professor in the Department of Health, Sport and Exercise Science at the University of Kansas. She also is the Director of the KU Sport and Exercise Psychology Lab and oversees the graduate program in the area.
Fry says that having the coaches and players buy-in to a caring climate is important, but it is equally as important that the rest of the community around the team does as well. Trainers and conditioning coaches should understand and embrace this climate. Parents are also a very important part of what makes the climate strong and functional. They can really strengthen this culture by being encouraging when their child is at home and off the field. When the community buys-in together, it can lead to some wonderful and successful results.
