Players Don't Care How Much You Know Until They Know How Much You Care

Brad Frost is the Head Coach for the University of Minnesota Women's Ice Hockey (@GopherWHockey) team. The Bethel University graduate has guided the Gophers to four NCAA national championships, six NCAA Frozen Four appearances, five WCHA regular season titles and three WCHA Final Face-Off championships. Frost concluded the 2015-16 season with a career record of 293-45-22 (.844) and has not had a team finish lower than second in the WCHA.
In this video, Brad Frost makes it clear that "players don't care how much you know until they know how much you care." Kids want to know that the coach cares about them as people and athletes, not necessarily how much they know about the sport. To Frost, caring is the foundation that must be in place before any sport specific knowledge is useful. Originally, Frost thought this mantra applied more to females than males, but in this video he shares that this mantra accurately describes both girls and boys.
