Janneke Schopman is the Head Coach of the United States Women's National Field Hockey Team (@USAFieldHockey), and s a two-time Olympic medalist (2004 & 2008) with the Dutch National Team. She was previously the Assistant Coach for the U.S. Women's National Team from 2014-2017, until her promotion to Head Coach in 2017.

According to Schopman, including your entire team in the process of choosing captains can be beneficial in building your culture. The United States Women's National Team has the players pick the captains and it is the coaches role to develop, educate, and assist those leaders once they are chosen. As Schopman says, "It's strong that the team choose their own leaders and then as a staff your responsible to develop the leaders."
