Trent Redden: The Lifelong Impact And Legacy A Coach Made On Him

Trent Redden was the Senior Vice President of Basketball Operations for the Cleveland Cavaliers until 2017. In his role, he worked closely with Cavaliers General Manager David Griffin on basketball and front office matters, including scouting and player personnel areas. He also managed the college draft process, which included the scouting all of the top draft prospects nationally.

Redden speaks about his influential high school basketball coach, who taught him not just about the game, but how to “be a man” as he puts it. In an instance where the coach kept someone on the team against one of of his own rules, he said that Redden wouldn’t understand until he had his own team of players, and that sometimes it’s easy to set rules, but coaching is really caring about a human. There are times where you need to be the one to make compromises to ensure players develop to their full potential later in life.
