Parents Need To Empower Their Kids In The Recruiting Process

Conrad Ray (@cardcoachray) is a former Cardinal standout student-athlete and touring golf professional and is Stanford’s Knowles Family Director of Men’s Golf (Head Men's Golf Coach). During his tenure as head coach, Ray has led the Cardinal to 10 appearances in the NCAA Championships, including the school’s eighth national title in 2007.

Even if kids are afraid or intimidated to talk to adults as high schoolers in the recruiting process, there's nothing worse as a college coach than getting a call from a parent of a high school athlete telling you how good and talented their kid is.

Ray's piece of advice for parents in this process is that parents should do what they can to empower their student-athlete to put themselves forward and put themselves out there in the recruiting process. Even if kids are nervous and are worried they're going to misspeak, talking to adults is a powerful skill that parents need to pass along to their kids.

PCA hosted supporters at the Stanford Faculty Club for breakfast with Knowles Family Director of Men's Golf Conrad Ray and Margot and Mitch Milas Director Of Women's Golf Anne Walker, as Former PCA President Tina Syer covered topics on the mental game, sports parenting, recruiting, and more.
