The Coaching Philosophy Of An NBA Coach

PCA National Advisory Board Member and Head Coach for the Boston Celtics, Brad Stevens (@BCCoachStevens) is known as a positive coach. Before joining the Celtics, Stevens rose to prominence as the preternaturally calm and cool coach of the Butler University basketball team that he led to consecutive NCAA title game appearances.

For every team that he coaches, Stevens has a simple and effective coaching philosophy: emphasize the unique strengths of every individual to get the most from the group. This focus allows players will find a role on the team and teammates begin to complement each others unique skills. This way, players will start to maximize their specific talents and can learn other areas of the game from their teammates. Stevens argues that this makes individual players more skilled and well-rounded and also allows his athletes to work well together as a team.
