Working With The Attention Span Of Young Athletes
This video features Jerry Butler, Chicago Bears Director of Player Development, at PCA-Chicago's 2015 Pre-NFL draft event, Character and Football.
Here, Butler talks about what it's like to work with the attention spans of young athletes. As many youth coaches can attest, young people don't always focus for very long which can make communicating during a several hour practice difficult. The approach Butler is trying is "technology breaks" in which he lets his athletes take a few minutes to check in with their devices. He is finding that these short breaks every 40 minutes or so ultimately help his athletes focus during practice."
