What Working Parents Can Do To Bond With Their Kids

Lon Babby, a PCA-Phoenix Board Member, is a Senior Advisor for the Phoenix Suns (@Suns). He is best known for his time as an NBA agent for some of the game's most respected sportsmen: Tim Duncan, Shane Battier, Ray Allen and others. He also spent over 35 years as an attorney, starting with the Washington Redskins, and is known today as one of the 100 most powerful people in sports.

As Babby grew up, his father spent a lot of time working long hours, but was there for him as often as he could be. When Babby started his own profession, he also had make an effort get away from work and spend time with his kid. Much of the time spent together as father and son, Babby explains, was at the Ballpark either coaching or watching sports. Babby "fell in love with his dad at the ballpark" and suggests that time spent together sharing sports experiences is invaluable time that forges a bond that goes way beyond the sport itself and can change relationships for the better. While he couldn't spend every waking moment with his kid like he would've preferred, sports provided several opportunities for Babby to teach his kid values, respect, life lessons, and to bond with him more quickly than he might have otherwise.
