Using The Competitive Spirit To Get "Wins" In The Classroom

Jean Boyd is Arizona State University's Senior Associate Athletic Director for Student Athlete Development. In this capacity he leads Sun Devil Athletics' commitment to graduating and preparing student-athletes to become high achievers in life. He also coordinates student-athlete well-being programs and leads the department's diversity and inclusion efforts.

Boyd shares his thoughts on motivating student-athletes in the classroom in this clip. He suggests translating the competitive spirit and desire for success in sports to a student-athlete's academic performance. Athletes want to win, and coaches can help translate that drive to classroom excellence, which pays off in meeting eligibility requirements and in overall development of the athlete as a person.
