Two Foundational Cultural Values To Build Upon: Attitude And Work Ethic

Pat Fitzgerald (@coachfitz51), a PCA National Advisory Board Member, is the Northwestern University Head Football Coach. Prior to coaching, his College Football Hall of Fame career included twice being named an All-American, twice winning both the Bronko Nagurski and Chuck Bednarik Awards, and leading Northwestern to back-to-back Big Ten titles and a Rose Bowl appearance in the mid-90's.

Just as goals need to be stated clearly, Northwestern coach Pat Fitzgerald also believes in having a set of values that his players and coaches abide by. In building the culture of Northwestern football, Fitzgerald has two foundational cultural values: attitude and work ethic. These values permeate throughout the team and staff and serve as the basis for the other values that the program upholds. The reason that attitude and work ethic are Northwestern’s foundational cultural values is because those are two mindsets that players and coaches can choose how much they are willing to invest in each.
