Tony La Russa On Helping Athletes Face The Realities Of Life
Take A Course »
Tony La Russa (@TonyLaRussa) is a PCA National Advisory Board Member, three-time World Series Champion manager and Baseball Hall of Famer. He currently serves as Chief Baseball Analyst/Advisor for the Arizona Diamondbacks.
In this video, shot at a PCA-Phoenix event that also included Diamondbacks Manager Chip Hale, La Russa talks about the importance of informing young athletes about realities they will face during their lifetimes. While it is easy for athletes to get distracted and become accustomed to “being catered to” they need to understand that the real world is not so accommodating. Respect has to be earned, and nothing is automatic. As coaches and leaders of youth, instilling basic values into players is key to preparing them for the rest of their lives.
