Amy Bokker (@AmyBokker) is the head coach for the Women’s Lacrosse team at Stanford University. Since joining the Cardinal in 2009, Bokker has established Stanford as the West’s premier program, consistently ranked among the country’s Top 25. She also serves as an Assistant Coach for the U.S. Women’s National Lacrosse Team.

In this video, Bokker talks about how she maintains a culture at Stanford that rests on three pillars: communication, trust and commitment. She details how each is important to the team and how they influence her actions as a coach.

Emphasizing communication, for example, teaches the team to develop relationships face-to-face and to avoid texting or emailing important information. Teaching trust, another component of relationship building, helps Bokker’s team count on each other in “clutch moments.” The third pillar, commitment, is Bokker’s way of reinforcing an all-in mentality that encourages seeing goals through until the end of the season.
