Team Chemistry Is Undervalued In The Day And Age Of Sabermetrics

Steve Souza Jr. (@SouzaJr) is a right-fielder for the Tampa Bay Rays (@Rays Baseball) of Major League Baseball (MLB). He previously played for the Washington Nationals. Souza attended Cascade High School in Everett, Washington. In high school, Souza starred for the school's baseball and football teams. Souza committed to attend Washington State University on a baseball scholarship, while also playing football for the Washington State Cougars.

In this video, Souza Jr. shares that team chemistry can be very underrated in today's day and age. While data and sabermetrics are becoming more popular, teams, coaches, and leaders mistakenly put less emphasis on team chemistry. However, as Souza shares in the video, the great teams don't win because of data, they win because they play together as a team, trusting one another. Souza notes the Warriors, Cavs, Cubs, and other dominant teams didn't win because of number-crunching, but because of their team chemistry. If teammates can't get along like family, no data or other stat that indicates talent is as meaningful. Souza admits that talent is important, but team chemistry is often what puts teams over the top.
