Social Dynamics Of A Team

In this video, Missy Wright -- an assistant professor at California State University - East Bay and a former collegiate tennis player and coach -- considers the basis for how teammates get along... or don't. She distinguishes between social cohesion, where unity stems from teammates liking each other personally, and task cohesion, which entails athletes working toward a common goal regardless of their feelings for each other.

Perhaps her most poignant piece of advice here is "Don't expect miracles." Of course, some people will get along with each other better than others. But as long as there is basic respect among teammates and acceptance of differences, team success remains achievable."
