Sideline Body Language

Grant Small is a former coach and sports sciences professor from the University of Abertay, Dundee, and now serves as the Program Manager for Positive Coaching Alliance Scotland (@ScottishFA_PCS). Small was responsible for research in small-sided game development, recipient of the UEFA coaching award, and worked as a performance manager for the Hibernian Football Club.

In this video, Small talks about how it is essential for parents and coaches to master the art of communication and the power of body language. When children look at the sideline during a game, they are looking at their coaches and parents as role models. When these role models show negative body language, it sends a message and creates a lasting impact on the athletes. Small says he wants parents and coaches to be aware of this power because it can have a “detrimental affect on the development of young people.”
