Pat Fitzgerald (@coachfitz51), a PCA National Advisory Board Member, is the Northwestern University Head Football Coach. Prior to coaching, his College Football Hall of Fame career included twice being named an All-American, twice winning both the Bronko Nagurski and Chuck Bednarik Awards, and leading Northwestern to back-to-back Big Ten titles and a Rose Bowl appearance in the mid-90's.

This short clip of Fitzgerald mic’d up, gives insight into his approach to positivity with his players. Coaches can learn from both Fitzgerald’s personal positive attitude and his insistence that the players remain positive in the face of discouragement. Staying positive throughout a practice or a game is essential to success because sports offer unavoidable ups and downs. This application of positivity will help players overcome a bad play or mistake, and assist them in focusing on the most important play – the next play.
