Mitch Belisle (@MBelisle85) is a professional lacrosse player, competing for Team USA and in the MLL and NLL. He played for Cornell University, winning the Schmeisser Award his senior year, an honor given annually to the most outstanding defenseman in men's college lacrosse. Belisle is the VP of Marketing for Triology Lacrosse, a lacrosse education organization.

Here, Belisle urges parents and athletes to do their research and learn the realities of collegiate scholarships for lacrosse. Too often he hears about parents thinking of lacrosse scholarships as "this magical golden goose," and he knows that the reality is far from this myth. He hopes that better understanding of the actual opportunities to play in college will help temper early recruiting temptations. As he advises here, parents and athletes should find a school that's a good match academically, socially, and then for lacrosse.
