Make Practice Fun By Including Competition

Jeff Rodin (@JeffRodin) is in his 16th year as the Director of Baseball Outreach & Development for the Arizona Diamondbacks of the MLB. In this role, Rodin has revamped the community initiatives of the team by creating youth baseball and softball programs that allow Phoenix area youth to learn and benefit from the same tools and techniques as Diamondbacks players.

To be successful, Rodin says, requires repetition in practice. To make repetition fun for kids, Rodin suggests high activity levels and integrating competition into practice wherever possible. Kids love every chance they get to compete, so when coaches set up and prepare competitive games for younger athletes, it increases engagement and helps them learn in a fun environment.
