Logan Pause: Don't Tie Identity To Performance

Logan Pause is the Head Coach of Orange County Soccer Club (@orangecountysc) of USL, the USL affiliate of LAFC. Pause was formerly Vice President of the Chicago Fire Soccer Club, played collegiate soccer at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and spent his entire 12 year professional playing career with the Fire. Pause was the 2012 recipient of the MLS Fair Play Award, an award given to the player who presents the best sportsmanlike behavior.

In this video, Pause describes how athletes often tie their identity to their performance, whether its in the classroom or on the field. He warns of the dangers in such association, which might lead to an emotional roller-coaster as athletes have good and bad days on the field.

To avoid these exhausting emotional ups-and downs, Pause suggests surrounding yourself with people that care about your development and who you are a person regardless of the way you perform. Pause suggests this will be better for consistent performance and personal development.
