Doc & Austin Rivers: Keep Practice Focused On Competing In The Sport

Doc Rivers (@DocRivers) and his son, Austin, are notable as the highest-profile father-son/coach-player combination in recent U.S. sports history. Doc is a PCA National Advisory Board Member and past NBA Champion coach of the Boston Celtics, now coaching the Los Angeles Clippers, where Austin, a former Duke University star, is one of his players.

In this video, Doc explains the value of coaches capitalizing in practice sessions on the tendency for players to love to play and compete. Rather than just having players run, which too often does little more than show the coach exercising his or her authority, coaches should make practice as fun and competitive as possible.
