Dealing With A Devastating Injury

Shelly Goldberg is a PCA Leadership Council Member. She was a member of the gymnastics team at Stanford University, where she was a three-time NCAA Academic All-America and a member of two Pac 10 championship teams.

In this video, Goldberg talks about how she dealt with a devastating injury at a critical time of her athletic career. Around the time she was hoping to be recruited for college athletics, Goldberg fractured her back and was forced to take time off from competing. This could have completely derailed her sporting career, but instead she found a way to get stronger from the experience. After conferring with her parents and her doctors, she spent six months in the gym doing low-impact exercises to get stronger. She also used the time to connect with her coaches and teammates in a different way, which ultimately helped everyone in the gym be better.
