Creating A Culture Of Character
Jack Bowen, a past Double-Goal Coach® award winner, is an author, water polo coach and philosophy teacher at Menlo School in California. To see him in action and to hear what his players say about him, see this video, made when he won the PCA Double-Goal Coach award.
Bowen tries to create a culture of character on his team. But rather than lecturing athletes on virtues and being a good teammate, Bowen suggests getting creative and modeling behavior that you want to see from your players. Teaching character means putting student-athletes in a position where they will want to show perseverance, teamwork and a strong work ethic.
