Connection Is The Foundation Of The Indians Success

In this video from PCA-Cleveland’s August Breakfast with the Indians, Cleveland Indians Director of Player Development Carter Hawkins shares his story about his college coach that made an effort to connect with him and explains what difference that made in his athletic success.
Hawkins explains that before giving any baseball specific instruction on hitting or delivery, his coach made an effort to emotionally connect with each player. To Hawkins, the coaches that do this at the professional level tend to have a lot of success on the scoreboard, including the Indians' own Terry Francona, whose first priority is to connect closely with the players. In doing so, Francona creates a foundation and an environment where players are able to learn, make mistakes and still trust that the coach will be in their corner no matter what happens.
