Communicate Expectations With Everyone Who Touches Your Program
Pat Fitzgerald (@coachfitz51), a PCA National Advisory Board Member, is the Northwestern University Head Football Coach. Prior to coaching, his College Football Hall of Fame career included twice being named an All-American, twice winning both the Bronko Nagurski and Chuck Bednarik Awards, and leading Northwestern to back-to-back Big Ten titles and a Rose Bowl appearance in the mid-90's.
In this video, Fitzgerald talks about how communicating expectations is critical to the success of any team. This communication must take place “through your staff, through everyone that touches your program, and most importantly your players.” As the head coach, Fitzgerald has the responsibility to make sure that a clear vision and plan is communicated from everyone that works with his program.
Any team that wants to be successful needs players to know, “exactly where (the coach) is coming from, what the expectations are so that everybody can be on the same page.” For any goal to be met, certain expectations have to be outlined and communicated clearly and effectively with everyone that touches the program.
