Coaching Your Own Child: Avoid Favoritism

David Jacobson (@CoachDaveJake), a former PCA staff member, has coached children ages five to 15 in baseball, softball and basketball (including his own son and daughter), and has officiated baseball, softball, basketball and flag football.

In this clip, Jacobson urges parents coaching their own child to be careful not to show favoritism. Not only is showing favoritism wrong intrinsically, but other kids on the team see it and may ostracize and ridicule your child as a result, doing your child further disservice. This cost to your child takes away the team experience they deserve, and outweighs any benefit of the preferential treatment of having a parent as a coach.
