Coaches That Forget About Relationships Lose An Opportunity

Matt Kata (@MattK8A) is a former Major League Baseball player and the Cleveland Guardians Manager of Youth Baseball Development & Initiatives. Kata graduated from St. Ignatius High School in Cleveland, Ohio.

A successful youth baseball coach, according to Kata, creates an environment of trust between the coaches and the players, as well as the player's parents. When coaching youth sports, it is important to gain the trust of your players so that they can adjust to your style of coaching versus their previous coaches. It is just as crucial that a relationship is formed with the parents so that they can trust what you do as a coach and support you while interacting with their children.
