Brad Stevens: How To Overcome A Loss

Brad Stevens (@BCCoachStevens), is the President of Basketball Operations for the Boston Celtics (@Celtics) and a PCA National Advisory Board Member. Stevens was the Head Coach of the Celtics until 2021. Stevens is most famous for his calm coaching style and demeanor on the sidelines. He is known for getting the most out of his players and led the Celtics to multiple Eastern Conference Finals appearances as the coach. Before joining the Celtics, Stevens rose to prominence as coach of the Butler University basketball team that he led to consecutive NCAA title game appearances.

In this video, Stevens explains how his players handle losses effectively. If his players act with character and maturity, it is much easier for them to overcome a loss. He explains that his players know that they left it all on the court and controlled what they could. Mature athletes understand that games come down to inches and bounces, and that sometimes they won’t win. As long as players illustrate tough character and put themselves in a position to win, it easier for them to handle things that are out of their control and move on to the next game after a loss.
