Special Olympics: Unified Sports

The Special Olympics is the “leading voice in raising awareness about the abilities of people with intellectual disabilities.” This organization gives athletes with special needs the ability to build their confidence, become involved in the community, and inspire others along the way.
During the 2015 LA84 Summit, Annette Lynch (@SpecialOlympics) from Special Olympics North America provided several online resources for those who want to be involved with coaching these athletes, getting involved in unified play, and gaining insight on how to help these athletes on/off the playing field.
One resource to get involved with the Special Olympics community is through Unified Sports. Unified Sports promotes social inclusion by joining people with and without intellectual disabilities to the same team to help create a friendship and understanding of each other through sport.
