Special Olympics: Training Courses

The Special Olympics is the “leading voice in raising awareness about the abilities of people with intellectual disabilities.” This organization gives athletes with special needs the ability to build their confidence, become involved in the community, and inspire others along the way.

During the 2015 LA84 Summit, Annette Lynch (@SpecialOlympics) from Special Olympics North America provided several online resources for those who want to be involved with coaching these athletes, getting involved in unified play, and gaining insight on how to help these athletes on/off the playing field.

If you are interested in gaining more experience in coaching athletes with special needs, The Special Olympics offers three different online training courses to get involved with the Special Olympics community. These courses include:

  • Coaching Special Olympics Athletes Course
  • Principles of Coaching for Special Olympics Course
  • Coaching Special Olympics Unified Sports Course, National Federation of High School Sports Associations
