Small-Sided Soccer For Youth Players

This resource on small-sided soccer games is brought to you by PCA National Partner, American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO).

Small-sided soccer is played with fewer players than the typical 11 on 11. AYSO recommends that coaches and organizations use this tool for athletes under the age of 12. Just as we like to have a small student-teacher ratio in classrooms, it's great for kids to learn soccer at a young age with fewer kids and a smaller field.

Small-sided soccer gives young athletes more touches, more involvement, a better understanding of soccer concepts, and more opportunities to try out new skills. Additionally, small-sided soccer helps parents who are new to the sport familiarize themselves with it more quickly.

This resource from AYSO contains guidelines for small-sided soccer for U6, U10 and U12 athletes so that you can set up developmentally appropriate games. Whether you're a first-time coach, or are just returning for another year, this is a great resource for you!
