Helmet Safety

Positive Coaching Alliance is proud to share information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on concussions in youth sports. As the CDC outlines in their HeadsUp initiative, the type and fit of a helmet does matter. Parents must pay close attention when outfitting their children with a helmet for sports (hockey, football, lacrosse, cycling, equestrian, paddling, etc) to best prevent injury.

In addition to the fit, parents should make sure the helmets remain in good condition, are age appropriate, are worn consistently and correctly, and are appropriately certified for use.

As the CDC states, “There is no concussion-proof helmet; a helmet can help protect your child or teen from a serious brain or head injury. Even with a helmet, it is important for your child or teen to avoid hits to the head.”

To learn more about how to outfit your child with the best head protection, see the link below.
