Youth Sports Organization Board Positions

Every youth sports organization is governed by a group of individuals with set roles and responsibilities. As we all know, running a league or club is extremely rewarding, but it also requires a lot of work. Having committed volunteers to serve on the board of directors and share in the responsibilities can make a big difference in the success of your YSO.

The positions most commonly found on a board of directors are president, vice president, secretary and treasurer. Other possible positions include manager of coach development, officials manager, Positive Coaching Alliance coordinator, registrar, equipment manager, facility manager, fundraising manager and information officer. Each position can be filled by one or two people, who would work together serving as co-presidents, co-registrars, etc.

It is important to think about the skill set and responsibilities needed for the various board roles when selecting the person who will fill each seat. For example, the president should be a good leader, have strong organizational skills, be comfortable speaking to the public and be dedicated to the goals of the league.

For more detailed descriptions on board positions and responsibilities, see this sample listing of possible roles to include in your organization.
