Honoring the Game is PCA’s definition of good sportsmanship, which should continue after a competition ends.

The school or organization you as an official are working for may have specific rules that you should follow after a competition. Here are some suggestions from PCA, which you can use if they’re appropriate for your situation.

  • Project confidence and have open body language as you leave the playing field.
  • Be approachable if someone does have a question.
  • Finally, if the players and coaches did a particularly good job respecting you and the rules, consider recognizing them immediately after the competition. You may even consider emailing or calling their principal or league president, which gives their “Honoring the Game” actions even more visibility.
