Why Parents Should Start Their Kids In Soccer

Charlie Slagle is a long-time soccer coach at many levels, most prominently for 21 years at Davidson College, where he is a Hall of fame inductee and was named D-I Men's National Coach of the Year. Charlie also served for 12 years as CEO of Capital Area Soccer League and is now CEO for Tampa Bay United and President for United Soccer Coaches (@UnitedCoaches).

Slagle discusses how soccer is a great sport for young athletes to start with because it is a team sport. The game is simple enough for young kids to understand and little equipment is needed. Since soccer is a team sport a coach is able to teach the essentials of teamwork, sportsmanship, having fun and how to promote an encouraging team environment because you have a whole group working together. If kids see positive families along with coaches who prioritize fun, they will want to continue to play the game.
