McIntyre's approach in skill development is to ask kids directly and listen for what they would like to work on. Coaches often see a lot that needs teaching, and asking an athlete what they'd like to focus on helps prioritize feedback. He says here that kids are more likely to buy into your drills and approach if you can show them that you are helping with what they want.
