Marc Trestman On Hazing

NFL Coach Marc Trestman is a PCA National Advisory Board Member. Trestman has 28 years of coaching experience in the NFL, Canadian Football League and collegiately. He is also the author of Perseverance: Life Lessons on Leadership and Teamwork.

In this clip, taken from an interview prepared exclusively for PCA, Trestman shares his definition of hazing – anything in the locker room that takes away focus from winning. If rookies are concerned about how they’re being treated or what punishments they’ll receive as players new to the team, this takes away from their focus and ability to perform on the field.

Hazing is also disrespectful. Trestman doesn’t want players who put others in a lesser position. Everyone on his team is just as important as the rest, and hazing takes away from this mentality.
