Santa Clara University Head Women’s Soccer Coach Jerry Smith (@SCUJerrySmith), a PCA National Advisory Board Member, has established a standard of excellence few can match, ranking as one of the five winningest women’s soccer coaches in NCAA Division I history.

In this video, he acknowledges the daunting statistics that show how few youth athletes eventually gain athletic scholarships, but also explains, "I don't want to crush anyone's dreams about being the next Steph Curry." For one thing, he says, "you never know" how an athlete may develop. And, in any case, coaches and parents can leverage athletes' passion to remind them of the need for dedication and hard work in pursuit of their dreams in sports and beyond.
