Janet Holdsworth is a past winner of PCA's Double-Goal Coach® Award and has coached lacrosse and served as an administrator at the youth through collegiate levels.

Here, Janet explains how to instill leadership traits in individuals that positively impact the entire team atmosphere. She suggests ensuring that everyone on the team knows that leadership is a core value.

One step is to have a team meeting, where speaks very explicitly about what she means by the word "leadership."" She describes specific traits, such as respectful, integrity and service to others and the program as a whole. She also asks players to volunteer for the roles needed for a team to function, which helps players identify ways they can contribute and naturally become team leaders in those areas.
