Hugh McCutcheon will be entering his fifth season at the helm of Golden Gopher Volleyball. He was named the 2015 AVCA National Coach of the Year and 2015 Big Ten Coach of the Year. He gained earlier fame for coaching both the men's and women's volleyball teams to Olympic medals. He led the U.S. Men to the 2008 Olympic Games gold medal and in 2012 led the U.S. Women to a Silver medal.

In this video, McCutcheon addresses the importance of framing feedback to athletes as "glass half full." Research has proven that establishing a positive culture leads to success, and he adds that "a pat on the back is way better than a kick a little further down." If an athlete needs to be yelled at in order to become committed and hardworking, McCutcheon believes that they need to reconsider their motives for what they are doing.
