How To Mentally Prepare For An Endurance Race

Eric Fischer (@efisch17) swam for NCAA Division III swimming powerhouse Denison University. As a senior captain and two-time Academic All-American, Eric helped lead the Big Red to four straight conference titles and two national championships. He is currently a Marketing Manager at PCA and earned his Master's degree in Sport Management at the University of San Francisco to help teach others the invaluable life lessons swimming taught him.

Success in a long endurance race requires unique mental fortitude. When preparing for these races, not only is it important to practice mental strength with discipline and consistency, but it is also important to remember these grueling practices when you are mentally readying yourself for a race so that you can reassure yourself you are prepared to handle the physical stresses of the competition.

Even in an individual sport like swimming, the support of teammates is also crucial for success. Knowing you have the support of all those around you before you dive in is integral to performance.
