How To Help Volunteer Parent Coaches Get Excited About Their Role
Matt Kata (@MattK8A) is a former Major League Baseball player and the Cleveland Guardians Manager of Youth Baseball Development & Initiatives. Kata graduated from St. Ignatius High School in Cleveland, Ohio.
Kata talks about the difficulties that come with coaching youth sports. Most volunteers are parents who do not have experience coaching, so it can be tough to get volunteers at times. The important thing is that these volunteer coaches remember and understand the power that sports can have on the development of children, and the opportunity that is there to teach these kids valuable life lessons. That way, they can feel excited about their role as a volunteer coach. He encourages youth coaches to seek out the many resources on how to be a positive and successful coach, and not be afraid to seek out the answers they need.
