How Girls Can Overcome Body Image Concerns And Embrace Their Athletic Build

Rachel Wood (@rmwood24) is an American soccer player for the Boston Breakers of the NWSL. She first played as a midfielder for Boston and recently switched to centerback due to her height. Prior to joining the Breakers, she played with HK/Vikinger in Iceland. A native of Laguna Niguel, Calif., Wood played in college at North Carolina and UC Irvine.

Girls go through body changes earlier in their lives than boys typically do, but often times they feel awkward because of that. By embracing their bodies rather than rejecting them, girls can reach their athletic potential and have a better time while playing sports. Here, Wood explains that she has large thighs and initially wasn't proud of them, but after realizing they were the key to her being a good soccer player, she embraced her body and enjoyed playing the game even more.
