How do we treat ACL injuries in growing athletes?

Kevin G. Shea, MD is an orthopaedic surgeon at Stanford University Medical Center and the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital. Dr. Shea has authored more than 140 scientific papers and book chapters and is part of the PCA Leadership Council.

Dr. Kevin Shea demonstrates how in an ACL operation for a young athlete, the growth plates may be damaged which allow children to grow taller. He explains the possibility of modifying the reconstruction technique to reduce the risk of growth plate injury to treat ACL injuries in growing athletes.
