PCA National Advisory Board Member Carol Dweck is the Lewis and Virginia Eaton Professor of Psychology at Stanford University and author of Mindset: The New Psychology of Success. She graduated from Barnard College in 1967 and earned a Ph.D. from Yale University in 1972. She taught at Columbia University, Harvard University, and the University of Illinois before joining the Stanford faculty in 2004.

On April 22, 2017, Stanford Professor and author of Mindset, Dr. Carol Dweck, was awarded PCA's Ronald L. Jensen award for Lifetime Achievement at the 16th annual National Youth Sports Awards. This clip is a from Carol Dweck's interview on-stage with PCA National Advisory Board Member Julie Foudy.

In this clip, Dweck shares how certain parents (known as helicopter, snowplow, or curling parents in various locations all over the world) miss the chance to teach their kids the life lesson of resilience and are not helping their child develop a mindset of growth. By protecting their kid from any potential difficulty, parents are not preparing their child for what may lay ahead in life. As she states, "nobody is going to sweep the ice for you" when life really gets tough as an adult.

Dweck urges parents to avoid preparing kids to be test-takers that care about grades only, because if this is all that matters, kids will not know how to cope or be resilient when things don't go their way. Dweck's life work has been devoted to get kids to love and embrace challenges.
