Dick Gould: 2 Responsibilities Of Parents

Dick Gould (@Dick_Gould), a PCA National Advisory Board member, is the winningest coach in Stanford men's tennis history, taking 17 NCAA titles in his 38 seasons. Under his guidance, former players have excelled with 9 reaching the top 15 in ATP world singles rankings and 50 becoming All-Americans. His former players have also captured 13 grand slam championships and 10 NCAA singles championships.

Here, Gould explains the two most important responsibilities for parents in sports today. Parents are becoming increasingly more involved with their kids athletics, but it is a parents first job to expose their kids to as many things as possible so they can find what they love.

A parents second job is to carefully nurture that love and ability. At times, this nurturing can get in the way of a kids enjoyment, so it is important that parents let the kid choose their sport and make sure they have fun with that sport once they make the choice.
