Colt McCoy: Tips For The Recruiting Process

Colt McCoy (@ColtMcCoy) plays quarterback for the NFL's Washington Redskins. As the starting quarterback for the University of Texas Longhorns from 2006–2009, McCoy won the 2008 Walter Camp Award, was the 2008 Heisman Trophy runner-up and was a 2009 Heisman finalist.

McCoy recommends that athletes not make the recruiting process any more complicated or important than it already is. He states simply, "Pick the school you want to go play at, and be thankful that you have the opportunity, and now the work starts. Now you have to go earn your opportunity to play."

McCoy thinks often recruiting is made to be bigger than it is, when the real process of a player advancing from high school to collegiate play only starts with recruiting, and athletes should focus more on the hard work they'll need to put in to earn playing time and other opportunities at the next level.
