Colt McCoy: Focus On Effort

Colt McCoy (@ColtMcCoy) plays quarterback for the NFL's Washington Redskins. As the starting quarterback for the University of Texas Longhorns from 2006–2009, McCoy won the 2008 Walter Camp Award, was the 2008 Heisman Trophy runner-up and was a 2009 Heisman finalist.

McCoy takes effort very seriously. He credits hard work to getting him to where he is today and he "never wants anyone to turn on the tape and think he doesn't give full effort."

He learned from a young age that putting in max effort helped him excel, whereas he too often saw teammates come late to practice and not try as hard as they could. He also emphasizes that making mistakes doesn't mean you aren't giving effort.

It's how you respond and learn from those mistakes that shows how much you're giving. He recommends sports parents and coaches teach effort as much as possible to help kids succeed.
