Claude Julien: How Fun Pays Off
Claude Julien is head coach of the National Hockey League's Boston Bruins. He led the team to the 2011 Stanley Cup and as of early 2016 was the longest-tenured head coach in the NHL.
Here, Julien says that there is too much pressure on players at all levels of hockey. An overly business-like approach from start to finish of every practice and meetings can suck the fun out of the sport. Ironically, fun can bring about a great deal more success in individual players and the team as a whole. When they are having fun, players are more likely to open up to each other, creating team bonds that manifest during competition, when players are more willing to sacrifice and help each other out. Team chemistry through fun can key success!
