Small-sided Soccer Game Resources To Develop Youth Soccer Players
This resource on small-sided soccer games is brought to you by PCA National Partner US Youth Soccer.
Small-sided soccer is played with fewer players than the typical 11-on-11 and on a smaller field. Small-sided soccer is a great way to develop players, because it often is more fun as each player gets more touches on the ball.
In fact, US Youth Soccer recommends the following number of players on the field for each of the following age groups:
- U6 - 3 against 3 with no goal keepers
- U8 - 4 against 4 with no goal keepers
- U10 - 6 against 6 with goal keepers
- U12 - 8 against 8 with goal keepers
- U13+ - 11 against 11 with goal keepers.
This resource from US Youth Soccer contains practice activities for small-sided games for U6-U8, U10 and U12, in addition to general guidelines and information. Whether you're a first-time coach, or are just returning for another year, this is a great resource for you!
