Nutrition: 3 Steps to a Healthier Concession Stand

The Coaching Healthy Habits training materials are brought to you by Healthy Kids Out of School at Tufts University Friedman School of Nutrition. These resources help youth sports coaches and parents promote three simple behaviors: drinking water, snacking on fruits and vegetables, and increasing active time. Research shows that these three habits can keep youth athletes healthy now and into the future.

This resource implores those who operate concession stands to take the steps to encourage athletes to consume healthier food. The first step is to offer healthy additions and substitutes for the normal concession stand fare. The second step is to help kids choose water instead of sugary drinks. The final step is to promote the healthier items.

These three steps serve not only the athletes, but also help their families and spectators eat and drink more healthfully.
